THE COMPANY

The original R. Buchanans Foundry was established in 1878 in Christchurch, New Zealand by Robert Buchanan.
New company, premises and ownership has Buchanans Foundry Ltd at the forefront in New Zealand ferrous and non-ferrous casting.

With a staff now exceeding 40 and annual turnover of castings in the hundreds of thousands of kilograms per annum, Buchanans Foundry has become a landmark foundry in New Zealand.

Buchanans Foundry offers a complete start-to-finish customer service, including pattern making through to casting, machining and finishing processes.

CAPABILITIES

Buchanans Foundry produces castings for local and export sectors and prides itself on its extensive range of product capabilities, with products ranging from small item production runs to large single castings, some weighing as much as 11 tonnes.

Buchanans Foundry is capable of producing a complete range of Spheroidal Graphite Iron ( SG, Ductile Iron), High Chrome Irons, as well as Grey Cast Irons and Steels to international standards and specialise in Compacted Graphite (CG) for such applications as Rail Brake Discs.
The company has also developed, through its own formulations, a unique form of aluminium-resistant cast iron for the aluminium smelter industry.

Production methods include resin-sand casting and die-casting.

Aluminium products are manufactured from certified primary ingot smelted by NZAS from Australian sourced bauxite. These products are subject to stringent mechanical property requirements.
